So, are we likely to play any football this weekend? Well, if there is any more rain in the next 48 hours, that will definitely put a lid on any football being played on Summerhayes. An assessment will be made on Thursday afternoon and a decision made regarding the weekend.
The difficulty apart from the rain, is waiting for the ground to become firm enough for the council mowers to get on and cut the grass. Although we were able to get on field 2 & 3 to cut the grass with the club's ride-on over the weekend, it had to be cut high therefore it requires another cut before it is usable. Hopefully this can be achieved on Thursday provided the heavens do not open up again.
Please be mindful that even though Summerhayes may have to remain closed on the weekend, there may be other grounds open in the Nepean Football Association. So, if you are playing an away match this weekend, it may still go ahead. As soon as the committee becomes aware of which fields are still impacted by the wet weather, information will flow to you via the coaches and managers if the field you are scheduled to play at is closed.
The Nepean Football Association is working hard to reschedule cancelled matches. These may be rescheduled as either mid week matches or utilising the Monday of the long weekend in June. Teams will be notified as soon as information comes to hand.
The rain may have certainly delayed the start to the season however it will not dampen our enthusiasm to play football.
